Scoping the skies

Saturday, December 27th, 2008 | Author: Julia

Went round to see Mel this morning laden with telescope. She and Arthur have taken an interest in the night sky and are going to use my scope for a while to get closer to the darkness. At the moment the limitation of my astronomical ( not to be confused with astrological ) knowledge is the proximity of Venus in the night sky. At the moment it is incredibly bright and easily visible to the naked eye. Yesterday evening Maureen and I went outside for a quick naked eye view and were amazed at how it shone in the dusk. Anyway, Mel now has a pash for astronomy and I hope the telescope doesn’t let her down. It was an impusle purchase from Amazon and has had some use but Mel is taking it more seriously. Lets hope it brings her closer to Taurus.

Starry, starry night

Well would you believe it….

Ive just bought and had delivered a brand new telescope ! The Celestron PowerSeeker 76 to be precise. Don’t ask me what prompted the new purchase because it was an impulse buy but I think somewhere in my deep sub conscious I had probably been thinking about this on and off for a while. I can’t pretend to understand the significance of this but it is a ‘reflector’ type with a mirror – so at least I can make sure my hair looks ok whilst using it.

Its enormous actually with a massive tripod and it looks very difficult to put together for a helpless woman……Dad…. ? Are you reading…… ???
And here it is:
